2026 BMW XM: The Base Model Is Gone

For some, simply driving a BMW is a dream come true. Thanks to entry-level models like the 2 and 3 Series or the X1 and X2 SUVs, that dream can be relatively attainable. These models are accessible and very popular. However, the story changes as you move up the lineup.

That’s why BMW has just decided to eliminate the base version of the BMW XM for 2026. Unlike most of the vehicles in the Bavarian automaker’s portfolio, the BMW XM is far from affordable—and I mean far. In short, those who can afford a vehicle like this are rarely interested in settling for a base model and are more than willing to pay tens of thousands more for the best possible version.

Only One Version Left

So it makes sense that BMW is now focusing solely on the XM Label model. This version starts at a hefty $288,456 before options. BMW has gone all-in by offering a wide range of wheel designs and color choices to further enhance the exclusivity of this high-performance SUV.

A Different Kind of SUV

BMW has built a strong reputation over the years and offers an impressive lineup of vehicles. You can get exceptional cars and SUVs from the brand in the $100,000 to $200,000 range. So, it’s fair to ask—what is the XM doing in BMW’s lineup?

What you need to understand is that the XM isn’t really aimed at everyday customers—not directly, anyway. Instead, think of it as BMW’s way of proving that it can compete with the very best. The BMW XM was designed to take on models like the Lamborghini Urus, Ferrari Purosangue, and Aston Martin DBX in terms of performance.

To do that, the XM is powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine paired with an electric motor, producing a combined output of 738 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque. This enables the Bavarian SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 282 km/h. Best of all, the BMW XM can also drive up to 50 kilometers on pure electric power.
