After the X1, it's now the turn of the BMW X2 to undergo a complete makeover, with a more sporty and modern appearance than ever. This new iteration of the Bavarian manufacturer's compact SUV has been thoroughly revised, offering more generous dimensions and the latest technologies from the brand. In short, the 2024 BMW X2 of the second generation has everything it takes to please.
The first generation of this model arrived on the market as a complement to the BMW X1. Just like with the X3 and X4 or the X5 and X6, the X2 aims to be sportier and more athletic. The first generation was a hit, which is why the manufacturer is renewing the experience with a second X2.
More robust than ever
The 2024 BMW X2 of the new generation is larger. It gains 193 mm in length compared to the old model, which is substantial. It is also wider and taller. However, what stands out before its size is its new aesthetic signature. BMW has opted for a clean front end with very angular shapes. The headlights extend into the fenders, and the air intakes are more imposing. At the rear, the Bavarian manufacturer focuses on finesse and elegance. The X2 is, therefore, more imposing and serious. What BMW wanted above all was to recreate the appearance of a sports coupe, and I believe they have succeeded in their mission once again.
Several options will be available for exterior colors and finish choices. In total, there are more than 13 paint options and wheels with diameters ranging from 20 to 21 inches.
The increase in volume of the new X2 results primarily in a more spacious interior. The Bavarian manufacturer\'s compact SUV benefits from the brand's new curved screen and a more sophisticated dashboard design. The X2 also incorporates several interior design elements from the iX, one of the brand's most modern vehicles. BMW has gone all out in terms of technology with the new X2, which offers the latest version of the iDrive 9 system.
Performance in the spotlight
Several mechanical options will be available, starting with a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 241 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. BMW claims a 0-60 mph time of under 6.2 seconds, which is very quick for a vehicle in this category. Next, there is the M35i version, which also features a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. However, the power output is increased to 312 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. This allows this version of the X2 to shave a full second off the 0-60 mph time. In either case, the Bavarian manufacturer\'s compact SUV comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The BMW X2 will arrive on the Canadian market in March 2024. Needless to say, we are eagerly anticipating the model. In the meantime, you can learn more about the model that will make its official debut at the Mobility Show in Japan next week.
